NSCRC — A Conference Built for Learning

NSCRC is a student-centered learning conference, organized by students for students. It exists to give undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral researchers a low-stakes, genuinely supportive environment to practice presenting their work and to grow from doing it.

Founded April 24, 1999 at MIT, NSCRC enters its 28th year in 2027. The emphasis is on constructive feedback, scientific dialogue, and building confidence as a communicator, not on performance or competition.

About NSYCC

The Northeastern Section Younger Chemists Committee (NSYCC) is the younger chemist arm of the Northeastern Section of the American Chemical Society (NESACS). Our mission is to advocate and facilitate the professional development of young chemists in the Greater Boston Area — cultivating future leaders in chemistry through community, professional development, and scientific exchange.

NSYCC is a community of predominantly graduate students, undergraduate students, and young professionals from the Greater Boston Area who are under 40 years old. We fulfill a needed space for young chemists to connect outside the lab and workplace.

NSYCC Programs & Activities

Community & Networking
NSYCC provides a supportive environment for young chemists to connect outside the lab. Young chemists often feel isolated in graduate programs or industrial jobs — our events change that.
  • Monthly networking receptions
  • Chemistry-themed trivia nights
  • Brewery tours & social events
  • Peer mentorship opportunities
Professional Development
NSYCC hosts the Annual Northeast Student Research Conference & Career Symposium — a two-day event planned by young chemists for young chemists to build real professional skills.
  • Student research presentations (NSCRC)
  • Traditional & nontraditional career panels
  • Resume review & mock interviews
  • Entrepreneurship & experimental design workshops
International Exchanges
NSYCC partners with the GDCh-JCF (German Chemical Society Young Chemists Forum) and NESACS to offer international scientific and cultural exchange programs for young chemists.
  • Annual GDCh-JCF / NESACS-NSYCC exchange program
  • Younger Chemists Crossing Borders (YCCB)
  • EuChemMS Chemistry Congress representation
  • ACS National Meeting participation
Community Outreach & Leadership
NSYCC encourages young chemists to become leaders in their communities and within ACS by partnering with schools and libraries to bring science to a wider audience.
  • Outreach with local libraries & high schools
  • Science demonstrations for the public
  • ACS Local Section leadership development
  • Demonstrating the fun side of chemistry
